The Columns Were Unbelievable

Athens was everything that we had hoped and more. The
weather could not have been more beautiful and the ruins
never ceased to be awe-inspiring.
Look again...that's Kate
Yes, that tiny spec (you can see her tennis shoes best) is
Kate - this temple must have been incredible.
Hadrian's Arch at Night
On one side of the park that holds Olympian Zeus's
Temple is this beautiful Arch.
Hadrian's Arch
The Roman Emperor Hadrian dedicated the
temple to Zeus in AD 132.
Modern Times
This busy street runs along side the Olympian Zeus
Temple - you can see Lykavittos Hill in the background.
Only 15 of the 104 original columns stand.
Ornate Corinthian Columns
A photo hardly does them justice.
It would dwarf even the Parthenon
This monstrosity of a structure would have made even
the Parthenon look small by comparison.
Built in pieces
A few of the columns that have fallen lie where
they fell and you can see how they were
constructed - it made us think of a dinosaur
skeleton .
