Close Encounters

Devils Tower (Lakota: Mato Tipila, which means “Bear Tower”)
is a monolithic igneous intrusion or volcanic neck located in
northeastern Wyoming. It rises dramatically 1,267 ft above the
surrounding terrain and the summit is 5,112 ft above sea level.

The 1977 movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" used the
formation as a plot element and as a location for its climactic
scenes.
