You're Not From Around Here Are You?
Over Mother's Day Weekend we took the opportunity to head north
to visit Brent's grandparents, Max and Doris Joachims, in Alva,
Oklahoma.
Brent's parents met here while in high school and got married here
shortly after graduating college. While growing up, Brent spent
time in Alva almost every summer. It was a lot of fun for Kate to visit
some of his old haunts and relive memories of his mischief.
Nostalgia Reigns Supreme

America's Breadbasket
On our way back to Dallas, we decided to take the "scenic
route" and certainly weren't disappointed by our decision.
The whole state is rich with history and the spirit of America.
That's Quite A Ladder!
As a teenager, Brent's dad used to put up
the Christmas lights on this water tower to
earn a few extra bucks during the holidays.
A Pomeranian On The Oregon Trail
Yeah, we doubt it too, but while in Alva, we
got a chance to see some of the covered
wagons the "Sooners" used to stake their
claims.
Dearly Beloved...
On a cold December morning, after a
now-infamous ice storm, Grandad Joachims
had to clear these steps so that his daughter
Janice could marry Thomas Sheffield.
Brent's parents have been married for 36
years.

University located in Alva.

Tourists in Alva, Oklahoma
Brent stands with his mom's favorite drink, a
Cherry Limeade, in front of the place in town
that boasts the best of these concoctions.
It's made with Sprite, real lime juice (it's best
if they leave the lime right in it) and some
sort of delicious cherry syrup.
The lady who made Brent's drink was
surprised that he also bought post cards -
asking, "You aren't from around here, are
you?" Apparently, she didn't even know
